چکیده

Determining for a given deterministic complete automaton the sequence of visited states while reading a given word is the core of important problems with automata-based solutions, such as approximate string matching. The main di3culty is to do this computation e3ciently. Considering words as vectors and working on them using vectorial operations allows to solve the problem faster than using local operations. In this paper, we show 6rst that the set of vectorial operations needed by an algorithm representing a given automaton depends on the language accepted by the automaton. We give precise characterizations for star-free, solvable and regular languages using vectorial algorithms. We also study classes of languages associated with restricted sets of vectorial operations and relate them with languages de6ned by fragments of linear temporal logic. Finally, we consider the converse problem of constructing an automaton from a given vectorial algorithm. As a byproduct, we show that the satis6ability problem for some extensions of LTL characterizing solvable and regular languages is PSPACE-complete. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Quasi-star-free Languages on Infinite Words

Quasi-star-free languages were first introduced and studied by Barrington, Compton, Straubing and Thérien within the context of circuit complexity in 1992, and their connections with propositional linear temporal logic were established by Ésik and Ito recently. While these results are all for finite words, in this paper we consider the languages on infinite words.

Linear and Temporal Logic Programming Language

Recent logic calculi open new possibilities for logic programming. Apparently the most important of them is a linear logic which makes possible to solve problems by resources treatment. The linear logic has already been used for several proposals of logic programming language. But authors of these languages mostly focused on the proposal of language and somewhat turned aside its efficient imple...

Specification Languages for Stutter-Invariant Regular Properties

We present specification languages that naturally capture exactly the regular and ω-regular properties that are stutter invariant. Our specification languages are variants of the classical regular expressions and of the core of PSL, a temporal logic, which is widely used in industry and which extends the classical linear-time temporal logic LTL by semi-extended regular expressions.

Events from temporal logic to regular languages with branching

Events in natural language semantics, conceived as strings of observations, are extracted from formulas of linear temporal logic, and collected in regular languages. Infinite strings of sets of atomic formulas (fully specifying truth) are truncated and partialized, in line with the bounded temporal extent and descriptive content of events. Branching from that line, counterfactual events are ana...

from [TW96]) We reveal an intimate connection between semidirect products of nite semigroups and substitution of formulas in linear temporal logic. We use this connection to obtain an algebraic characterization of the `until' hierarchy of linear temporal logic; the k-th level of that hierarchy is comprised of all temporal properties that are expressible by a formula of nesting depth k in the `u...
